Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup thick sour cream
  • 1/2 cup real mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup chilled buttermilk, or kefir
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp onion powder, or 2 Tbsp finely minced green onions to add a mild, fresh bite
  • 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper, or more to taste
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt, or more to taste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp dried parsley flakes, or 2 Tbsp freshly chopped parsley
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 dried dill, or 1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh dill
  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 garlic powder, or 3 cloves of garlic

Method

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
  1. Start by assembling all your ingredients on the countertop. Pre-measuring them makes the process smoother. Plus, it ensures you don't forget anything!
Step 2: Combine the Creamy Elements
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the thick sour cream, real mayonnaise, and chilled buttermilk. Use a whisk to mix them thoroughly until you achieve a consistent creamy texture, with no lumps.
Step 3: Add the Zesty Ingredients
  1. Next, incorporate the apple cider vinegar, onion powder or green onions, black pepper, and fine sea salt into your mixture. Stir well to ensure the flavors blend harmoniously.
Step 4: Infuse Fresh Flavors
  1. At this point, add lemon juice, dried parsley or fresh parsley, smoked paprika, dried dill or fresh dill, and garlic powder or minced garlic. Stir until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 5: Taste and Adjust
  1. Take a moment to taste your dressing. This is your opportunity to tweak it. Want it tangier? Add more lemon juice. Crave a little more heat? Adjust the pepper. This dressing should be perfect for your palate.
Step 6: Chill
  1. Cover your bowl with plastic wrap or transfer your dressing into a jar. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. However, it’s best to leave it overnight. The longer it sits, the better it gets!

Notes

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh herbs, like parsley and dill, elevate the flavor.
  • Experiment with spices: Feel free to adjust spices according to your taste. Add more heat with cayenne pepper or chili powder.
  • Make it healthier: Swap out mayo for Greek yogurt. It’s lighter and equally creamy.
  • Let it linger: The dressing blooms with flavor over time. Make it ahead of your event!
  • Store wisely: Use an airtight container for the freshest taste.
